Itinerary
Longyearbyen
Arrive in Longyearbyen, the administrative center of Spitsbergen. Explore the town, museum, and surrounding Arctic scenery. In the evening, m/v Hondius departs Isfjorden, with chances to spot minke whales.
Sabinehaugen & Raudfjorden
Landing attempt at Sabinehaugen, where Edward Sabine conducted gravity experiments in 1823. Later, cruise into Raudfjorden, a glacier-filled fjord home to seabird colonies, ringed and bearded seals, and possible polar bears.
At Sea
Begin the westward crossing toward Greenland. Scan for whales and migrating seabirds while attending onboard lectures and briefings.
At Sea / Sea Ice Edge
Depending on conditions, the jagged edge of East Greenland’s sea ice comes into view. Wildlife sightings remain possible throughout the day.
Myggebugten & Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord
Land at Myggebugten, near historic trappers’ huts, surrounded by tundra with musk oxen and Arctic geese. Sail onward through Kaiser Franz Joseph Fjord, framed by towering mountains and interior icebergs.
Optional long hike (6–7 hours) available.
Teufelschloss & Antarctic Sound
Visit Teufelschloss (Devil’s Castle) with its striking layered geology. Afternoon exploration among the islands of Antarctic Sound, with a likely landing on Maria Island.
Segelsällskapets Fjord & Alpefjord
Morning landing among ancient sedimentary formations, with chances to see musk oxen, Arctic hares, and ptarmigans. Afternoon cruise into dramatic Alpefjord, possibly including a Zodiac cruise near Gully Glacier.
Antarctic Havn
Explore a broad valley rich in musk oxen, set against tundra landscapes glowing with early autumn colors.
Milne Land & Vikingebugt
Cruise along glacier fronts, basalt columns, and ice formations. Sail among immense icebergs along Milne Land, with a possible landing at Charcot Havn.
Sydkap – Øfjord
Encounter colossal icebergs rising over 100 meters high. Land near Sydkap with views across Hall Bredning and sightings of Arctic hares.
Optional long hike to Satakajik, passing Thule winter house remains.
Evening arrival in Øfjord.
Øfjord, Scoresby Sund
Morning Zodiac cruise near Sorte Ø, surrounded by towering icebergs. Midday positioning of the ship in the center of totality. In the afternoon, witness the total solar eclipse from ship or shore — a rare Arctic spectacle.
Liverpool Land & Ittoqqortoormiit
Tundra landing on Liverpool Land, followed by a visit to Ittoqqortoormiit, the largest settlement in Scoresby Sund. Explore the village, sled dogs, and local life. Afternoon sailing along the Blosseville Coast.
At Sea
Final sea day with opportunities to spot whales and seabirds while crossing toward Iceland.
Akureyri
Disembark in Akureyri. Optional pre-booked bus transfer to Reykjavík available.
