Itinerary

Your expedition begins in Ushuaia, Argentina, often called the southernmost city in the world. Located on the edge of Tierra del Fuego, this small port town is the gateway to Antarctica. In the afternoon, board your expedition vessel and sail through the scenic Beagle Channel, surrounded by snow-covered mountains and dramatic landscapes. Enjoy your first evening onboard while the ship heads toward the Southern Ocean.

Begin your crossing of the famous Drake Passage, the stretch of ocean between South America and Antarctica. This route was once navigated by early polar explorers. During the voyage, you may observe seabirds such as wandering albatrosses, petrels, and fulmars gliding above the waves while attending informative lectures by the expedition team.

Continue sailing south and cross the Antarctic Convergence, where cold Antarctic waters meet warmer northern seas. This nutrient-rich region attracts abundant marine life. Guests may spot whales and numerous seabirds while preparing for the upcoming Antarctic landings.

Your first glimpse of Antarctica reveals dramatic scenery of towering icebergs, rugged mountains, and glaciers. The ship sails past the Melchior Islands and Schollaert Channel, between Brabant and Anvers Islands. Guests may take their first Zodiac cruises and shore landings to experience the pristine polar landscape.

Visit Danco Island, known for its large colonies of gentoo penguins. The island also provides opportunities to observe Weddell seals and crabeater seals resting along the shoreline. Guests may participate in guided shore walks or optional long hikes to explore the surrounding snowy terrain and enjoy panoramic views of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Explore Neko Harbour, a spectacular bay surrounded by towering glaciers and dramatic mountain peaks. Guests may enjoy Zodiac cruises along ice cliffs and shore landings offering breathtaking views of the surrounding glaciers. Hiking opportunities may also be available depending on weather conditions.

Cruise through the calm waters of Paradise Bay, a location famous for its stunning scenery and frequent sightings of humpback and minke whales. Later, visit Port Lockroy, a historic British research station on Goudier Island that now operates as a museum and post office. Nearby areas such as Jougla Point host gentoo penguins and seabirds.

Explore the fascinating South Shetland Islands, known for their volcanic landscapes and wildlife. One highlight is Deception Island, where the ship sails through the narrow entrance called Neptune’s Bellows into a flooded volcanic caldera. Here you may see an abandoned whaling station and thousands of seabirds. Guests may also hike across the unique volcanic terrain. Alternatively, visits may occur at Half Moon Island, home to chinstrap penguins and Weddell seals.

Leave Antarctica and begin the return crossing of the Drake Passage. Guests can relax onboard while continuing to observe seabirds and marine life. Expedition staff may present lectures summarizing the wildlife, geology, and history of Antarctica.

Spend your final full day at sea enjoying the ship’s facilities and reflecting on the incredible experiences of the journey. Seabirds often follow the vessel as it sails back toward South America.

Arrive back in Ushuaia in the morning. After breakfast, disembark the vessel and transfer to the airport or continue your onward travel with unforgettable memories of Antarctica.
